Is staying near the Colosseum a good idea?

Staying near the Colosseum is a practical choice if Ancient Rome is high on your sightseeing list. The Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are close together, making it easier to explore this part of the city on foot.

The area is also connected by Metro B at Colosseo, while central Rome remains within reach. If the Vatican or the streets around Piazza Navona and the Pantheon are your main priorities, another part of Rome may be more convenient.

Monti or Celio?

MontiChoose Monti if you want restaurants, lively streets and a neighbourhood atmosphere alongside easy access to the Colosseum.

CelioChoose Celio if you prefer a quieter base and want to stay very close to Ancient Rome without being in one of the busier central neighbourhoods.

Near the Colosseum or Centro Storico?

Stay near the Colosseum if the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are at the top of your Rome itinerary.

Centro Storico may suit you better if you want to be closer to places such as the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain.

There is no single best area for every trip — the better choice depends on which part of Rome you want to have within easiest walking distance.
